EuroPro Q school first stage took place at The Players near Bristol
51 professionals and amateurs took part with 22 players progressing to the finals in April
Day 1 and I could not have got off to a better start after I made birdies on my 2nd and 5th hole to move to 2 under par.
A couple of steady pars followed before I then reeled of 3 birdies on the spin on the 7th, 8th and the 9th hole – out in 31 and 5 under par through nine holes
The birdies dried up on the back nine but just 1 dropped shot on the way back and I signed for a 67 (-4) under par
This score was not bettered and at the close of day one the next best was – 3 and meant I was leading the tournament!!
Day 2 and going out as leader, nothing I had experienced before but couldn’t wait to get back out to play
I was very nervous but played my front nine (course back nine) pretty steady with just two dropped shots and at half way was still 2 under par for the tournament.
I moved onto my back nine (course front nine) and all was going well with pars on the first and second hole before my nerves just got a hold of me on the tough 3rd hole.
A pushed tee shot right followed by a ball in the water and I had made an 8 all my hard work from day one cut out in 5 minutes.
Winning the tournament was now drifting away but the most important part qualifying for the finals was still my priority. I must admit my confidence was rocked by the 8 on the 3rd and after a couple more bogeys coming in I did stumble across the line, but I qualified and now would go to Frilford in April for the finals
Great experience going out as the leader, in fact with just 7 holes left to play I was still in first place, unfortunately it didn’t happen this time but has given me so much more confidence to push on and try and get that win
