After making back to back cuts my confidence was really high going in to the next EuroPro Tour event at Cumberwell Park Golf Club.
I love this golf course. I have played here many times, as we used to have our county coaching training here back in the day when I was a member of the County Under 14 squad.
Day 1
A great start with back to back birdies on the 11th & 12th (my 2nd & 3rd) and with no dropped shots round through nine holes in -2 under par.
Onto the back nine and no more birdies but solid 8 pars mixed with just one bogey and I signed for a 70 -1 under par for the day – pretty steady.
Day 2
Not one of my best front nines and my solid golf of the previous weeks seem to have left me for nine holes. One birdie, but mixed in with five bogeys and I was out in +4 39 so now needed a big back nine.
Although the back 9 was back to my normal solid golf I couldn’t make enough birdies to move back to level par. Just the one birdie in with one bogey for level par back of 36
My total for the tournament 70 + 75 (+3) pretty solid two days golf but not enough to make the cut this week.
Next stop, I move on to my favorite competition of the year, trying to qualify for The Open itself
In the previous two years I have reached the final qualifying stages and with my form I was confident I could also do this again
I travelled to Minchinhampton Golf Club in Gloucestershire, which is not too far away from me and is the same venue I played last year.
Again my golf this year is so much more solid in scoring but I couldn’t drop enough birdies to get my score under par where I needed to be.
I made two birdies on the 1st and 13th holes, but 3 bogeys meant I finished the day on 73 (+1) not a bad score! But this year sadly not enough to get me through to the final stages.
Next stop was back to the EuroPro Tour and off down south to play Dudsbury Golf Couse near Bournemouth.
Day 1
I started on the back nine holes as my first nine and not a bad start 4 straight pars before a bogey followed by a birdie and after 7 holes I was still level par.
I lost my ball on the tough 17th hole which resulted in a double bogey and after a par on 18 I was out in (+2) 38
Back nine and again very solid but nothing exciting and again just get enough birdies to get myself under par. One birdie followed by two bogeys and I was done at 74 +3 for the day
Day 2
Knew I needed to go low today and the more I tried the more I found trouble, in fact when I needed my lowest round of the year I manged to turn my round into my highest of the year
Only manged the one birdie and with 5 bogeys and a double finished the day on 77 (+6) my highest round of the year.
Unfortunately another missed cut which is a real shame as my golf has been so solid.
I’m off to Newcastle now for the next EuroPro event
Thank you everyone as always for your support
