Finally after the Q schools and all the practice my EuroPro first event was here
Off to Marlow in Buckinghamshire to play Harleyford Golf Club
Day 1
And off to a flyer as I made birdies on the 5th,6th and the 9th hole, a bogey was made on the 2nd but through my first nines holes I was out in 34 (-2) under par.
Onto the back nine and further birdies on the 13th and 16th took me to -4.
Gutted to bogey my last hole, but really happy with my round of 69 and with day one over and I’m -3 under par
Day 2
Scores looked good also for the rest of the field so my target was to finish no worse than -2 to make the cut and play the full 54 holes.
Again off to a great start with birdies on the 2nd and 4th holes, then just lost my way a little with dropped shots on the 6th,7th and 8th – I made a birdie on my 9th hole so now my position was out in level par so still -3 for the tournament.
Back nine, and after I dropped a shot on the par 4 11th I was thinking this could now be close to the cut so needed a big finish.
Glad to report after a really strong last 7 holes which saw me make 4 pars, but even better 3 birdies. I was done for the day at -5 under par and easily inside the cut line.
Day 3
Cut made and now get out and play the last 18 holes to try and move up the leaderboard and improve my finish position.
Very steady start of 5 straight pars before dropped shots on the 6th & 7th. Really wanted an under par back nine to try and get into red figures for each round of the tournament, but now was a big ask as only had nine holes remaining.
Again great to report after making birdies on the 11th, 15th and 17th and with no dropped shots I finished with a 71 (-1) under par.
Job done all 3 rounds under par 69 (-3) 70 (-2) 71 (-1) for a tournament total of -6 under par
Also thank you to my dad coming out to caddy for the final day (although I think he only came because he knew he got to wear a caddy bib)
Off to Donnington Grove next week for next EuroPro
All the best – and thank you as always for all your support
Matty
