After last weeks -6 and a cut made at Harleyford Golf Club, I couldn’t wait to play again at this weeks’ event held at Donnington Grove Golf Club in Newbury Berkshire
Round 1
A great course to play and a huge layout at over 7,000yrds
I am playing some really nice golf at the moment, the putts have started to drop and with that brings the confidence back.
I started off on the back nine and even though I got off to a bad start I was still very confident of turning it around and getting back on track.
So after day one my round was 4 bogeys, to my 3 birdies, and I had finished with 73 (+1) and after being +3 after just 4 holes, I was very pleased with this
Round 2
The big day as always as now you are playing to score well and make the cut.
Off to a lovely start and I was -2 through 7 holes before a bogey on 8 and finished -1 through 9
I was now level for the tournament (which looked like the cut line) but even better to follow as I made birdie on the 11th before an EAGLE! 3 on the 13th got me to -4.
A bad finish with dropped shots on the 14th,15th and 17th brought me back to -1 for the day and level for the tournament – but as predicated, the cut did fall at level par and I was though to the 3rd round again for second week running.
Round 3
With the bad weather coming in the tour decided to make it a two tee start and try and get us around as quickly as we could to save abandoning the day and reducing the tournament to the 36 holes already played.
I started on the back nine and despite the appalling weather I was still playing great golf, I did have my friend Jack caddying for me which is a great help in bad conditions.
I reached the turn in 35 (-1) and was moving up the leaderboard nicely as other players were struggling in the conditions.
On to the final 9 holes and one bogey made on the 1st (my 10th) followed by 8 straight pars and I was done at level par for the day, and level for the tournament.
This moved me up to a tie for 21st place and another pay day so very happy with the last couple of weeks played.
Next week local again at Cumberwell Park in Bradford on Avon before the tour moves up North
Looking forward to this event as it’s a course I know very well from my junior county days as this is where we trained.
Thank you as always for your support
Matt
