Finally after a long winter the season is ready to tee off, the Masters is on the tele, EuroPro Q school first stage has taken place, but what have I been up to and how did my Q school go.
Same as last season once we got Christmas out the way and back out on the golf course I applied to play on the winter Thomson Tour.
I played in 4 events we lost a couple due to the weather, but the ones I did play in were pretty steady rounds to start the year off. With my finishes I managed to also qualify for the end of season Tour Championships.
These took place at the Bedford Golf Club on the 9th April – I had a first round 75 (+4) but followed it up with a 70 (-1) for a total score of +3 for the day. I’m pleased to say this left me in 6th place for the tournament and also the 2nd best gross score of the afternoon which also meant I picked up a few pounds £££ – below is the leaderboard.
EuroPro
Last week (3rd & 4th April) I played in the EuroPro Q school (first stage) which is always a nervy couple of days, as one bad round here and you fail to qualify for the tour so always a stressful week for me.
Day one – I played really solid golf and finished the day with a 71 (-2) which left me in 12th place and well inside the qualifying places.
Day two and a familiar story as the wind and rain hit the EuroPro events, just 1hr away from me at Donnington Grove and Caversham Heath the day two rounds were abandoned due to the weather.
At Studley Wood Oxfordshire we kept going, and with greenkeepers on every green to squeeze off all the water we continued to play.
Another solid round of 75 (+2) and I had finished level par for the tournament and in 8th place, again well inside for the qualifiers for the final stage of Q school to be held at Frilford Heath 16th, 17th and 18th April.
Finally, for now, one of my best days to report on – my sponsor Rickety Bridge host a race day each year at Newbury Race Course and it’s such a great day to raise thousands of pounds for charity, and I love to attend this event.
It’s also great to meet back up with the team from my sponsors Kingsland Drinks as well as finally getting to meet back up with Duncan from Rickety Bridge who I haven’t seen for a couple of years to due to fixture and date clashes.
Now my last part, a huge thank you to all my sponsors Rickety Bridge, Kingsland Drinks and Chaka Travel, your support is huge for me, without all your help I just wouldn’t be able to keep going and try and achieve my goal of a place on the main European Tour.
Also, my friends and family, all your messages of love and support mean so much – when you are away so much from everyone, receiving those messages in the evenings really does keep you going so thank you all so much.
OK that’s it from me, I will keep you all up to date as the season unfolds best wishes to you all and have a great 2019 season on and off the golf course
All the best
Matt
