Has to be my favourite event of the year – it is the oldest and most established tournament in the world and this is where you start to try and get one of the places in a Major Championship.
Last year was amazing, I qualified from regionals to get through to final qualifying one of my best experiences in golf so far (but I could I do it again)
So on the 25th June I headed to Minchinhampton Golf Club in Gloucestershire
I was in the second group out at 7.10am so nice early start and off to a flyer with a birdie at the very first hole
5 straight pars followed before another birdie dropped at the par 3 7th and I reached the turn in -2 under par 34
Onto the back nine and again great golf saw me birdie the 12th & 14th to get myself to -4 under par!
My only blemish on the card was a bogey on 16 before I went on to birdie 18 and finish my round at -4 under par 68.
Then the waiting game, all day waiting for the other groups to come in and see if my -4 is enough to grab one of the qualifying spots and get into the final qualifying for this year’s Open.
Out of the field of 115 players only 4 bettered my score and one tied it, so I had finished in 5th place and will now go through to the finals next week
On Tuesday 3rd July I will be at Notts Golf Club Hollinwell playing 36 holes to try and qualify for this years Open to be held at Carnoustie
So excited for next week, can’t believe I have made it through to final stages two years running
Have a great week and enjoy the sunshine while you play
Matt
