A weekend off from travelling on EuroPro & Jamega Tours and perfect timing as this weekend was the Stiff Salver held at The Players Club
I won this event in 2015 so was looking forward to trying to defend my title in 2016
The Stiff Salver, hosted by The Players Golf Club, is an open competition for elite Amateurs and Professionals to come and take their chance on the 7,716yrd Championship Course (one of the longest courses in Europe)
Not off to the best of starts as I found the bushes on the first with my tee shot – but after my drop, I fired a great shot into the green and a two putt later and got away with just a bogey
The next holes were as steady as you can get as I reeled off 8 straight pars to finish the front nine in 37 +1 over par
Onto the back nine and another tough start with a very strong par 3 – I just missed the green and failed to get up and down to record another bogey so now stood at +2 for the day
Again just very steady golf saw me then go onto make another 7 pars with more bogey and for the back nine I was on 38 +2, with a front nine of of +1 I was done in 75 +3 for the tournament
As I was one of the last back into the clubhouse I was relieved & delighted to hear that my score of +3 was the lowest gross round of the day and I had retained my title!!
A very tough course set up with the CSS on the day going up to 80!!! and out of the 95 players that entered only 6 kept their scores in the 70`s so a very tough test of golf
Hopefully I’m free again next year where I can try and go for the hat- trick and win 3 in a row : )
Here’s my scorecard
