With an absolute hectic schedule I thought I would write a bit of a latest round up rather than my individual tournament results
So my last write up was me qualifying to the final stages of this years Open Championships for the second year in a row, but how did I get on
More of that to come as also the week of Open Regional Qualifying I played at Cumberwell Park on the EuroPro Tour
Cumberwell Park – EuroPro Tour
Still maintaining my great form saw me make 6 birdies and an Eagle in my first 36 holes at Cumberwell – a few bad shots brought my score back to a very steady level par, but agony in the end as the cut line moved to -2 so I had just missed out the final days play by just 2 shots
The Open
Now the big one off to The Open Finals – On the 3rd of July I arrived at Hollinwell Golf Club in Nottingham to play in the 36 hole qualifier and I teed it up against the other 72 guys all trying their hardest to get one of the 3 spots available
What a day, announced to the tee in front of the Open signage, even had a few spectators following my group around. I did however find the course and the conditions very tough to deal with.
I wasn’t the only one though, as at the end of the day only 5 players managed to break par!! which shows how tough the course was playing.
I did however attract a fan, and met one of the nicest & politest lads ever who asked me to sign his hat as I walked off the 18th green
I was very disappointed as I have been in great form and it just didn’t show up on the day. No time to dwell though as I had to be in Newcastle the next morning to play in my next tournament on the EuroPro tour
Longhirst Hall – EuroPro Tour
After a very tiring 36 holes the day before and the long drive up to Newcastle in round one I shot a +3 75, I was OK with this, I always want to be lower but a -1 the next day should see me through
Day two did not go as planned at all and I think the week finally caught up with me as I slumped to a second round 81 and missed the cut.
Back home for the weekend before returning to the North of England on Monday for another EuroPro event Moor Allerton in Leeds
Moor Allerton – EuroPro Tour
Fantastic start in round one as I shot a -3 back nine to go with a +1 front to shoot -2 under par 69 and in 20th place
Day two should be straight forward enough level par and I would be playing the final day, again my form just seemed to disappear at the crucial moment and I struggled round to an 80 and another missed cut.
The highs and lows of golf all experienced in 3 weeks – one week I’m -4 under par and qualifying for finals of the Open Championships, getting interviews for the local websites and newspapers, then next I’m missing the cuts and going home early
A week off this week, time to recharge the batteries and get some valuable practice in before my next event, which is on the EuroPro Tour at Caversham Heath in Reading
Thank you all as always for your messages and support
Matt
