Really enjoyed playing Reading Golf Club – a lovely golf course and finally some nice weather to play in.
I played in the Pro-Am the day before the tournament which was made even more special when I got to play with three guys I regularly play with at the weekend in social golf.
We all had a good round, I managed to get it around to level par and the team finished overall in 5th spot just missing out on the prizes, but was great fun to play with some friends.
Day one of the tournament I felt good and the course was in fantastic condition, off to a steady start with 4 straight pars before I made a bogey on the 5th hole.
Unfortunately this was followed up by another at the 7th & the 9th and I reached the turn in 3 over par.
The back nine was a bit more of a mixed bag with two birdies, three pars, three bogeys and a double-bogey when I lost my ball on the 12th hole – my 3 over back nine to go with my 3 over front and I signed for a 76 (+6)
Day 2 and this time it was my front nine which was the mixed bag – one birdie and four pars but four bogeys meant again I was out in +3, 38 the same as day one.
On the back nine I managed to steady things down quite a bit and was more consistent, I hit eight pars in a row before I made birdie on the last for a -1 back nine of 34
So 34 in with my outward 38 front nine and I was round in 72, two over par. I was well outside the prizes as scoring was very low, but my rounds felt much steadier so still plenty to work on.
