My first Jamega tour event of the season saw myself return to Dummer golf club near Basingstoke.
Day 1
The first rounds weather was perfect with just a slight breeze for most of the day. A birdie at the 3rd got me to one under par however a bad tee shot on the 8th was enough for me to drop my first shot of the day however I bounced straight back with a birdie at the tricky 9th hole to reach the turn at -1.
A steady par at 10 followed up with a birdie at the 11th was the perfect start to the back 9. Unfortunately a flyer from the left rough on the 12th saw me drop another shot back to -1 and even though I gave myself chance after chance coming in I finished my round with 6 straight pars for a respectable -1 71.
This put me roughly into a tie for 28th position as the relatively easy conditions saw leaders shoot scores of -7 and -6!
Day 2
I was excited to get out there and play some golf.
A friend of mine Graham Harris caddied for me for the second round and did a tremendous job of helping me read the greens as the pin positions were slightly trickier than the previous day. Again my first birdie came at the 3rd and with chances at 4,5,6,7
I didn’t convert any of them and was becoming frustrated.
I chased a putt on 9 four feet past the hole and pulled my putt coming back to make a silly bogey and to reach the turn at level par for the day. Fuming with myself my caddy and I turned to each other and said ‘four birdies coming in and we will be fine.’
I pushed my tee shot on 10 and had a downhill lie to the green. I decided to play away from the pin and find any piece of the green I could. I found the right side and two putted for a birdie to get myself to -1 for the day and -2 for the tournament.
A safe par up 11 followed by a huge three wood off the 12th tee which set up an easy birdie. Another par followed before hitting an 8 iron to 8 feet on the 14th making another birdie to get to -3 for the day and -4 for the tournament.
Another par followed before driving the short 16th green in one and two putting for yet another birdie. Stood on the 17th knowing two pars should see me get atleast a top ten and a pay day I felt nervous for the first time during the whole tournament.
A weak 5 iron ended up in a front bunker before splashing out and only managing a bogey but with a par 5 to finish I was confident I could get that shot back and still finish -5. Three iron off the tee as there is a pond within driving distance set up a 270yard 3 woods which left no room for error. A fine swing put my ball within 20 feet of the flag and a solid two putt ended a successful tournament.
I came tied 10th and picked up a nice little cheque, my next event will be at Essendon Golf Club also on the Jamega Tour
