After a week in Scotland playing Montrose it was a quick turn around and straight back to Scotland the week after to play Loch Lomond
Probably one of the most picturesque courses I have played on with the views of the Loch, but an absolute brute at over 7,000yrds and with all the wet weather stopping the run of the ball not making it play any shorter
Day 1
Could not have got off to a better start when my approach at the first found the green about 25ft from the flag only for me to roll it in for a birdie and go straight to one under par.
Three straight pars kept the round nice and steady before I made another birdie and the par 5 fifth hole now 2 under for the day
A bogey on the difficult par 3 6th was cancelled out straight away as I chipped in for another birdie on the 7th to get back to 2 under par
Trouble off the tee on the 8th and bogey before a very loose tee shot on 9 which saw me lose my my ball and ended with a disastrous triple bogey, all my hard work lost in two holes
Through 9 holes I was now +2, 15 minutes earlier I was -2!!
Had to keep focused though and the back nine I made 7 seven straight pars before bogeys on 17 & 18 left me at +4 for the day
Day 2
And a familiar sight met me at the golf club – pouring down with rain!!
The course already playing long and with me having to make birdies to secure the cut I knew I was up against it
This time not the start I wanted when I made bogey at the first, another at the 3rd & 5th and now knew cut line was moving away from me.
I got one back at 7 with a nice birdie before another bogey at 9 and I was out in 39 +3 for the day and +7 for the comp.
Onto the back nine and bogies at 11 & 12 before 4 straight pars, another bogey at 17 and a par on 18 and I had finished +6 for day and +10 for the comp
That was a tough long week and the leaderboard showed it – the winning score was only -3 and only 9 players out of the 168 starters managed to break par!!
here’s my scorecard
