The Roller-coaster of being on Tour
The long trip to Scotland this week as I headed up to Montrose to play in the Eagle Orchid Scottish Masters on the EuroPro Tour
A good practise round in calm conditions, which is very rare for this course – a links course right on the edge of the coast looking out to the North Sea
Round 1
An early morning tee time and I was off and running with a quick birdie on the 2nd hole. A bit of an up and down front nine, in fact the whole round was a bit up and down.
A bogey on the 3rd, and 9th were quickly erased with Birdies on the 5th, 8th front nine completed and out in 35 -1 under par.
Back 9 – early birdie again on the 10th and another on the 13th 1 more made on the 15th blocked out the bogey made on 14 and day one was finished.
35 + 33 round of -3 under par 68 and I finished the day in a tie for 12th place
Round 2
A Later tee time today: 12.20 pm
I was hitting the ball so well but I couldn’t get a putt to drop as I churned out par after par. Front nine completed in level par 36 (9 straight pars)
Onto the back nine and just need to keep steady to make the cut (top 50 players from 156) and play day 3 and get in the prize money
More pars to follow as I made another 3 before my first bogey on the par 4 13th
A quick recovery as I made birdie on 15 and got myself back to -3 for the tournament
16th next a 250 yard par 3, one of the toughest holes I have played on any course and after my par putt failed to drop another bogey.
Par on 17, before another bogey on 18 and I had finished the day on +2 73 and now -1 for the tournament
Now for a real roller-coaster of a couple of hours!!!
When I finished the cut line was -2 so I was now missing it and on my way home, but as we sat in the hotel watching the leader board more players were finding trouble and in the end the cut line moved to -1 and now I was back in
Day 3
my chance to move up the leader board – however storm Hecter arrived on the East Coast of Scotland and was delaying the start of day 3.
In fact, bad news to come as the weather gradually worsened and EuroPro made the decision to completely abandon day 3 and close comp off after two days, So no chance to improve my position, however the cut was made so I did make it into the prize fund!
Next week EuroPro again and not so far this time as I head to Clevedon near Bristol, which is only 1 hour from my house.
As always, good luck with your own games
Matt
