Europro Tour ‘GRENKE Invitational’ at Cumberwell Park
My first official EuroPro Tour start and it was at a fairly local club to me in Wiltshire at Cumberwell Park.
Round 1
Feeling slightly nervous I headed to the tenth tee to start my tournament as it was a two tee start.
I started with a par at the first then an early birdie at the second to get me to one under. All was going well, I wasn’t feeling nervous, I was executing good shots but my first bogey came at the par 4 fifteenth, which played a brute for the two days I played it. Measuring at around 485 yards it played more like a par 5 than a four all week.
I rounded my opening 9 holes off with three pars and was level at the turn. My par stretch continued as I made pars on holes 1-5 before three putting 6 and failing to get up and down at 7 costing me two strokes. However if I could get home from here without dropping anymore shots it would still be a solid round of golf.
The par 5 ninth was my last hole and playing downwind I thought I’d give it a bash with driver but my only poor swing of the day saw me lose a ball left with a pulled tee shot resulting in finishing with a double bogey 7.
I signed for a round of 75 (+4)
Round 2
I had some work to do if I was to make the cut this week knowing a round in the mid 60’s was needed.
Starting off the first tee, I made the best start possible, holing a downhill 20 foot putt to start with a birdie.
My solid golf continued despite a dropped shot at the par 3 third, I followed up with 5 straight pars before playing the 9th hole a little differently to make sure I didn’t make the same mistake again. Two three irons and a wedge set up a 5 foot birdie which I converted to reach the turn at -1 for the day.
Pars at 10,11 and 12 followed, before an near inch perfect tee shot at the par 3 thirteenth nearly saw me make my fourth career hole in one.
The par 4 fifteenth came back to bite me again with a poor three wood tee shot in to a fairway bunker resulting in only being able to hack it out, then my third shot sloped off into the greenside bunker and three shots later I made a double bogey to make all my hard work disappear.
I finished with three more pars to shoot a level par 71. I finished the tournament at +4 sadly missing the cut.
Plenty of positives were taken from my first EuroPro Tour start though.
Here’s my scorecard
