Final stage of EuroPro Q school was held this week as always at the superb facilities of Frilford Heath Golf Club
The format of final stage – 240 golfers from all over the world play 18 holes on each the Red and Blue course, then the top 80 golfers make the cut for the final day which is played on the Blue course.
Day 1
I was playing the Red course, regarded as slightly tougher than the blue course but I’ve been in great form and couldn’t wait to get going.
I started on the back nine first and was off to a steady start of 4 pars before a birdie on the 14th.
Back to back bogies on 16 and 17 put me back to 1 over par but then birdies on the 4th & 6th and I had got to -1.
I made bogey on the 9th my 18th hole to finish the day at level par and around the Red course I was pretty happy with that
Day 2
Now playing the Blue course and off to a fantastic start with birdies on the 2nd, 4th,and 7th holes got me to -3 under par.
A really disappointing double bogey on the 9th after my tee shot found a stream, but through 9 holes at -1 and in good shape.
Bogey on 12 followed by birdie on 13 and still on track, however back to back bogeys on 17 & 18 and now I thought I will be close to cut line as I had finished at +1 after 36 holes
No need to worry though as this put me in a tie for 69th place and with 80 players making the cut I was safely through.
Into the final day, Day 3
The Blue course and again what a start as I birdied the very first hole a bogey on 12 my 3rd hole and through 9 holes I was level par.
My target now was to finish the back nine -1 to finish level par for the 54 hole event and try and get into the top 60 and receive a better tour card.
Absolutely delighted to report that after a bogey of the 3rd (my 12th) I made back to back birdies on the 4th and 5th to finish the day at -1 under par and level for the week
My rounds of 72+73+71 put me up into 54th place and earned me a category 6 tour card which for the first time means I am guaranteed entry to all the EuroPro events for 2019.
Thank you for all your messages of support and to everyone that came out to watch me play, I can’t wait for the EuroPro season to get going.
My last message of special thanks goes out to Graham who took 3 days off a busy work schedule to come and caddy for me, thanks Graham we did it.
All the best everyone and keep golfing
Matt
