The Oxfordshire – longest course on tour at over 7,300yrds absolutely stunning place though and couldn’t wait to play it
Day 1
Very good start with pars made on the first three holes before my first birdie on the 4th
A bogey on the long long par 3 6th followed by another on the 8th and I was out in +1 (37)
back nine knew I needed nothing higher than par to make sure I was still in contention tomorrow to make the cut
And straight away I made a birdie on 10 and I was back to level par – a bogey on the 13th was a bit of a set back but I then made back to back birdies on the 14th & 15th to get me to 1 under par
A really frustrating bogey on the long par 5 after I found the water and a par on the 18th meant I had shot -1 for the back nine and level par for the round, disappointed not to be under par, but level was my target so shouldn’t be too unhappy
Day 2
With the overnight rain making the course even longer and looking at the top 50 scores from the day before the cut looked like it will be at +1 so my goal be inside that : )
Playing the back nine first I started in the worst possible way with a bogey on the 10th (my first) I steadied the ship with 5 straight pars before back to back bogeys on 16 & 17 stopped me in my tracks
I made a great birdie up 18 to finish the 9 holes in +2 so cut still on, two under back nine and should be OK
I started with 4 straight pars before a birdie on the par 3 5th and now I was back to just +1 and needed a another birdie and should be OK
As I got to the short par 4 8th (my 17th) we were getting wind of the cut looked like not being +1 at all BUT -1!!!
With only two holes to play I had no choice but to try and drive the 8th make eagle / birdie and make a birdie up 18
I drove the green with an awesome tee shot, only to see my ball bounce straight through the green and into the long rough at the back
When we found ball it was in a terrible lie and by the time I had shifted it through the rough and made it the green and putted out I had made double bogey 6
I parred the last to finish with a 75 to go with my 72 +3 but cut at -1 and I had missed it after looking so close
Here’s my scorecard
