A difficult week in Scotland as I travelled to Aberdeen for my final EuroPro Tour event of the season.
A real battle as storm Ali hit Scotland bang on the tournament dates, which forced the tournament organisers to reduce the tournament to just 36 holes.
After travelling to Aberdeen on the Sunday I was up early on the Monday morning ready for my practice round
I could only get through 9 holes as the weather worsened so I walked the back 9 holes to mark out my yardages ready for the start of day one.
Round 1
It was a horrendous morning of driving rain and gale force winds, I couldn’t believe we were actually teeing off but the tour gave us the nod and off we went
Amazingly in the conditions I was playing some great golf and through 5 holes I found myself still at level par after two birdies to one double bogey.
The weather was worsening (if this was possible) and as my group reached the turn I was still level par.
Onto the back nine and another birdie followed by bogey and I was still hanging on to my level par score.
Then what a relief as I stood on the 13th tee the horn sounded and we were all called in from the weather.
It was that bad that play was actually abandoned for the rest of the day.
I was relived to still be at level as some guys were already 6 to 7 over par, but the real winnings were the late tee times as they hadn’t even started at all and missed all the bad weather.
Back the next day to finish my second round and what a change in conditions perfect weather nothing like yesterday.
I made one more bogey before two more birdies and my round one was over and I was really happy with my 71 (-1) under par.
The tour announced that round 3 would be cancelled so the second round was now my last
Round 2
I was out early and the rain and wind was back making play so very tough again.
Through my first 6 holes (back nine) I had slipped to +3 for the round and when I made back to back doubles on 17 & 18
I had slipped from the top half draw into the bottom half.
On to to my final 9 holes (front nine) and a slight comeback was on with 3 birdies in my first 8 holes had pulled my score back a bit.
A bogey made on the 2nd and another on the 9th and my round was complete
71 + 78 and I was +5 for the tournament
Here’s my scorecard
A real shame of a week as Newmachar Golf Club will go down as one of my favourite courses that I have played.
It was just one of those times where I was the wrong side of the draw and got really unlucky with the weather
My final tournament next week back to the Players Club on Jamega Tour before the winter break
Thank you for all the support I will let you know how I get on
Until next time
Matt
