Not too far to travel this week as I played on the EuroPro Tour just down the road from me at Clevedon Golf Club in Somerset
Day 1
An early start for me first out at 7.30 am and starting on the back nine first.
Good start with two consecutive pars before my first birdie of the day on par 5 12th hole.
Despite a bad swing on 15 which put me in the trees, I recovered well to get to the green, but then 3 putted for a double bogey. Same again on 16 another loose swing and again trouble this time worse as I made a triple.
I reached the turn in +4 40 so now needed a good back 9 finish.
Onto the front nine (my back nine) and great golf one bogey made on the 2nd but a birdie two the 3rd hole followed immediately by another birdie on the 4th and I was getting my round back together.
I finished with another birdie on the 9th my 18th and played the last nine in -2 under par 34
Day 1 over in +2 over par 74 and very happy with the comeback and looking forward to day 2
Day 2
Off at 12.20 so nice to have a little later tee time today and playing the course the correct way I was off on the first hole.
A bit of mixed bag of a front nine, I knew I needed to shoot -3 today and made that my target.
A bogey on the 1st was wiped straight away with a birdie on the 2nd.
Further bogeys on the 4th & 5th were also forgotten about as I made further birdies on the 7th & 8th not making progress on my -3 target but I’m still hanging in there.
The big turning point was the 9th hole I hit my tee shot away around the dog leg to hear both my partners say great shot and off we went.
However, my ball was nowhere to be found and after the 5 mins I had to give up as a lost ball and return back to the tee. I eventually made another triple bogey from a tee shot that looked like I would make a birdie.
Two more bogeys on the back with one more birdie and my round was over at +4 76 and a tournament total of +6 so sadly a missed cut
Next week local again on EuroPro at Cumberwell Park, but before that first stage of Open Qualifying can’t wait for that one
As always, thanks for reading and good luck with your own game
Enjoy the sunshine
Thank you
Matt
