British Par 3 Qualifiers – Nailcote Hall
After last years success in this event I decided to once again try my luck at the british par 3 again for a second year. I love this competition as its a real test for the short game on a small but tricky golf course.
I didn’t get off to the brightest of starts spinning my ball back into a greenside bunker on the first hole. Dropping an early stroke set the tone for the opening 9 holes where my putter felt cold as did my short game. A dropped shot at the third and another at four saw me go down to three over par two more dropped shots at the tricky seventh and eighth and the tournament was pretty much over being +5 at the turn.
Being so many over par seemed to settle me down although I put my tee shot once again into the greenside bunker on the first I managed to get it up and down for par. My tee shot on the second went into the front bunker and was sat at the back of the lip. I managed to pop it out onto the green check it to the left and hole it for a two!
This started a little charge on the back 9 with a par at the third then a well holed 10 foot putt on 4 for a birdie then a chip in birdie on 5. My tee shot on 6 was all over the pin and i looked set to make another 2 and keep the run going.
An overhanging branch that lurks over the pin caught my ball and sent it flying right of the green resulting in an unlucky bogey. A further bogey at 8 put me back to +4 but a solid approach into the 9th to 4 feet allowed me to finish in style with a birdie and a respectable +3 finish.
